Fisherman's Pie Recipe

For the filling

• 1 1/2 pounds white fish fillets (such as cod or haddock), cut into chunks

• 1/2 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined

• 1/2 pound scallops (optional)

• 1 onion, finely chopped

• 2 carrots, diced

• 2 celery stalks, diced

• 2 cloves garlic, minced

• 1 cup frozen peas

• 2 tablespoons butter

• 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

• 1 cup fish or vegetable broth

• 1/2 cup white wine (optional)

• 1/2 cup heavy cream

• 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

• Salt and pepper to taste

For the mashed potatoes

• 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

• 1/4 cup butter

• 1/4 cup milk

• Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

• Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

• Start by making the mashed potato topping. Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until they are tender. Drain and mash them with the butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

• In a large skillet, melt the 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until they start to soften.

• Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

• Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.

• Gradually pour in the fish or vegetable broth and white wine (if using), stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.

• Stir in the heavy cream and chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

• Gently fold in the fish chunks, shrimp, scallops (if using), and frozen peas. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the seafood is just cooked through.

• Transfer the seafood mixture to a baking dish.

• Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top, creating a smooth surface.

• Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown, and the filling is bubbling.

• Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Enjoy your homemade Fisherman's Pie!
